There are only three drugs for erectile dysfunction that have been approved by the FDA. One of the three is Cialis. Treatment is in the form of oral tablets. The pharmaceutical ingredient in Cialis promotes a stronger blood flow to the penis. This is what facilitates an erection. Cialis works quickly and the effects can last for as long as 36 hours. During this time an erection can be obtained when sexually aroused.

NB: Cialis will not work for you if the other two erectile dysfunction drugs, Levitra and Viagra, have not helped. The drugs all work on the same principle.

Are there any risks associated with this drug?

Any man who has reacted badly to Levitra or Viagra should not use Cialis. If you are allergic to any other medical substance tell your doctor.

If you use any other medicines, tell your doctor. Also tell your doctor about any herbal treatments you are using, as well as vitamin and mineral supplements. Cialis can react badly if taken with some medications.

If you are due to undergo a medical (or dental) procedure do not take this drug.

If you take a nitrate, e.g. nitroglycerin, for angina, do not take this drug.

Do not take this drug if you are taking alpha-blockers to treat blood pressure problems or prostate problems.

Be sure that you clearly understand your doctor’s instructions about how and when to take your dose.

Who cannot take this drug?

Women, children and adolescents cannot take this drug.

Any man who has suffered a stroke, a heart attack, or irregular heart rate during the last 6 months, may be at risk with this drug. If a man gets chest pains while having sex, or has uncontrolled blood pressure problems, he may be at risk with this drug. A doctor will advise if the use of Cialis is safe or not.

Are there any side effects?

There could be some minor side effects, but they are rare. You might experience nasal congestion, flushing, upset stomach, back pain, vision problems, heartburn, or a headache. If these continue for more than 2 days speak to your doctor.

Serious side effects

Symptoms that will require immediate medical attention are: chest pain, severe rash, fainting, painful or burning sensation during urination, painful erection or a prolonged erection.

If there is a sudden loss of vision, get emergency help. This might be associated with NAION - a rare but serious eye condition that restricts blood getting to the optic nerve. Men who could be a high risk are those who smoke, are over the age of 50, and those who have a history of vision problems, diabetes, high cholesterol, heart disease, or high blood pressure.

Storage

This drug should be kept in the original canister and stored in a place that is dry and cool. Do not expose this medication to direct sunlight or humidity. Store it in a place that cannot be accessed by children or pets. If this drug is not needed any longer, or if it expires, it should be correctly disposed.
